President Joe Biden’s 2024 run undercut Democrat party, top advisor says in new book

Former President Joe Biden’s decision to run for a second term in the 2024 election had a detrimental impact on former Vice President Kamala Harris’ chances of defeating President Donald Trump, according to a top Democratic consultant. David Plouffe, who served as former President Barack Obama’s campaign manager in 2008 and as a senior advisor on Harris’ 2024 campaign, detailed the negative effects of Biden’s campaign in a new book titled “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”

Plouffe criticized Biden’s decision to stay in the race for so long, despite concerns about his declining mental faculties. He asserted that Biden’s run ultimately “f—ed” the Democratic party and turned Harris’ campaign against Trump into “a f—ing nightmare.”

According to the book, a senior White House aide revealed that efforts were made to shield Biden from his own staff to conceal the extent of his cognitive decline, which began in 2023. The aide, who ultimately left the White House due to their belief that Biden should not run in 2024, described Biden’s decision to seek a second term as a “disservice” to the country and the Democratic party.

Despite Biden’s team orchestrating a cover-up to hide the severity of his mental decline, several books have detailed the challenges faced during his 2024 campaign. One such book, “Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History,” highlighted how the White House isolated Biden from social interactions, fearing that he might say or do something that could further fuel concerns about his mental acuity.

Critics have pointed out that restricting Biden’s interactions with others only allowed his faculties to “atrophy” further, rather than sharpening them through engagement and socialization. The decision to wall him off from the world was deemed a grave mistake by some within the administration, as it hindered his ability to connect with friends, allies, and the public.

It is evident that Biden’s decision to run for a second term had far-reaching consequences, impacting not only his own campaign but also undermining Harris’ chances of success against Trump. The revelations in these books shed light on the challenges faced by the Biden administration and raise questions about the handling of his cognitive decline. As the Democratic party reflects on the outcome of the 2024 election, lessons can be learned from the mistakes made during Biden’s campaign.
