Hawley threatens subpoenas against groups that may be funding anti-ICE riots

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., has intensified his investigation into alleged financial support for anti-ICE riots across the country, threatening subpoenas against three organizations. Hawley has not received responses from the organizations he is probing for potentially backing riots in Los Angeles, and he plans to seek subpoenas if they do not comply.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Hawley stated that he would push for public hearings on the matter, emphasizing the importance of transparency in addressing the issue. He believes that the riots spreading to different cities indicate organized funding behind the unrest.
Hawley sent letters to left-wing groups, including the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and the Union del Barrio (UD), requesting internal communications related to protest planning, financial documents, third-party contracts, and donor lists. He warned the organizations to cease any involvement in supporting unlawful activities.
IRS records reveal that CHIRLA has received substantial government grants, including funding from former President Joe Biden’s administration. Despite funding cuts from President Donald Trump, CHIRLA continues to receive state and city grants to support legal efforts against deportations. The organization is also responsible for the Rapid Response Network, which alerts immigrants of ICE raids.
Trump has criticized the rioters in Los Angeles, labeling them as professional agitators rather than genuine protesters. He has expressed support for arresting California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his handling of the riots.
