Qatar gifts Trump jumbo jet to use as Air Force One

The royal family of Qatar recently made an offer to donate a jumbo jet to the Department of Defense that could potentially serve as Air Force One. This generous offer, however, has not been accepted by the White House, according to Fox News sources.

Earlier reports from ABC News suggested that President Trump was considering accepting the $400 million Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet and using it until the end of his term, after which it would be given to his presidential library. Trump’s frustration with Boeing’s delays in producing a new presidential plane may have played a role in his willingness to entertain this offer.

Despite initial reports, a White House official clarified that the gift will not be presented or accepted during Trump’s upcoming visit to Doha. However, the possibility of Trump taking possession of the plane at a later date has not been completely ruled out.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that any gift from a foreign government would be accepted in compliance with all laws, and the administration is committed to transparency. Trump himself confirmed the offer in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The Boeing 747-8 in question has been described as a “flying palace” due to its opulent interior. Legal reviews by the White House counsel’s office and the Department of Justice have been underway to ensure the legality of the president accepting such a valuable gift from a foreign nation.

The current Air Force One fleet consists of two planes, with plans for two new jets under a $3.9 billion contract awarded to Boeing by Trump in 2018. However, the construction of these new jets is not expected to be completed until 2029.

When not in office, Trump travels in his private Boeing 757 jet, known as Trump Force One. This jet, adorned with his last name and luxury fixtures like 24-karat gold-plated seat belt buckles, was frequently seen during his campaign rallies. Trump purchased the 757 jet in 2011 and underwent a complete renovation ahead of his 2024 presidential campaign.

Overall, the potential donation of a jumbo jet by Qatar’s royal family has sparked intrigue and legal considerations, adding another layer to the complexities of presidential travel and aircraft acquisition. The story continues to evolve as Trump’s Middle East trip approaches, with all eyes on whether he will eventually accept this lavish gift.
