Russian woman dies after being swept away by massive wave

A tragic incident occurred in Koh Samui, Thailand, where a young Russian tourist, Kamilla Beliatskaya, lost her life after being swept away by a massive wave while practicing yoga on a rock at a popular viewpoint. The 24-year-old tourist had arrived at the Laad Koh viewpoint parking lot in a red car before heading down to the rocky area with her pink yoga mat.

CCTV footage captured the heartbreaking moment when Beliatskaya was swept off the rocks by a powerful wave, leaving onlookers horrified and helpless. Witnesses immediately contacted the Bo Phut Police Station when they noticed the woman had gone missing, struggling in the rough waters with waves reaching up to nine feet in height.

Despite water rescue teams attempting to search for Beliatskaya, the operation had to be suspended after 30 minutes due to worsening wave conditions. Earlier in the day, Jet Ski operators had already removed their vehicles from the beach due to hazardous conditions. The incident took place near the Laad Koh viewpoint in Moo 6, Bo Phut District, Surat Thani Province, which is home to the popular tourist islands of Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Koh Phangan.

Chaiyaporn Subprasert, the head of Samui Rescue Center, emphasized that warning systems were in place at all the beaches across the island. He stated that during monsoon season, tourists, especially in high-risk areas like Chaweng and Lamai beaches, are constantly warned with red flags indicating no swimming. While the location of the incident was not a swimming area but rather a viewpoint for scenery, the unexpected wave surge caught the victim off guard.

Tragically, Beliatskaya’s body was discovered on Chaweng Noi Beach by staff from the Impeña Resort Hotel at around 11 p.m. on Saturday. Her boyfriend, Grigorii Anokhin, confirmed her identity. Authorities emphasized the importance of extreme caution during monsoon conditions and advised visitors to avoid rocky coastal areas when the surf is large.
