US Election 2024

Rand Paul backs Kat Cammack for House Republican Conference Chair, Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., recently announced his endorsement of Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., for House Republican Conference Chair, following his previous endorsement of Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., for Senate Majority Leader. The leadership elections for House Republicans are scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

In a statement, Paul praised Cammack as a “proven champion of liberty with a strong track record of defending our freedoms and empowering Americans.” He emphasized her commitment to the Constitution and labeled her as the best choice for the House Conference Chair position.

The impending vacancy in the House Republican Conference Chair role was created by President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of current Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Cammack is among the candidates vying for the position, with GOP Reps. Lisa McClain of Michigan and Erin Houchin of Indiana also throwing their hats into the ring.

Stefanik assumed the role after Rep. Liz Cheney was ousted from the post in 2021. Cammack expressed her eagerness to work towards achieving the “America First goals” during the upcoming Congress and stressed the unity and determination of House Republicans to deliver on their campaign promises.

In addition to Cammack’s endorsement, Paul has also publicly supported Rick Scott for Senate Majority Leader, citing the need to address the unsustainable $2 trillion annual deficits. The Senate GOP Leader position is being contested by Scott, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D.

The upcoming leadership elections in both the House and Senate are crucial for shaping the direction of the Republican Party in the coming years. Republican senators are set to cast their votes on Wednesday, while House Republicans will also participate in similar elections.
