Rapper Nelly won’t be charged after drug arrest

Nelly Cleared of Drug Charges After Arrest at St. Louis Casino

St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell announced that rapper Nelly will not be facing drug charges following his arrest at a local casino earlier this year. The decision was made after a thorough review of the evidence, according to Bell.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II, was taken into custody at Hollywood Casino & Hotel in Maryland Heights, Missouri, in the early hours of August 7. The arrest stemmed from an outstanding warrant related to a 2018 citation for operating a vehicle without proof of insurance. During the arrest, the officer allegedly found ecstasy pills in Nelly’s possession, leading to initial charges of felony drug possession.

However, Nelly’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, argued that the search leading to the arrest was unjustified. The insurance charge has since been resolved after Nelly provided proof of insurance, resulting in its dismissal.

Nelly, a St. Louis native and three-time Grammy Award winner, is best known for hits like “Hot in Herre” and “Just A Dream.” His musical success includes four No. 1 hits and nine Billboard Music Awards. Nelly has also ventured into acting, appearing in various films and TV series.

The rapper’s Grammy wins in 2002 and 2003 further solidified his place in the music industry, with accolades for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Male Solo Rap Performance, and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
