Raptors sign forward Ingram to 3-year, $120M US extension after trade

The Toronto Raptors have officially locked in star forward Brandon Ingram with a lucrative three-year, $120-million US contract extension, as reported by various media outlets. ESPN was the first to break the news, revealing that the agreement also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

This significant move comes after the Raptors made a bold move just before the NBA trade deadline, acquiring Ingram in a trade deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. The trade involved sending a 2026 first-round pick from Indiana, their own 2031 second-round pick, and veteran players Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk to the Pelicans in exchange for the talented forward.

Raptors general manager Bobby Webster had expressed his intention to secure Ingram’s long-term commitment to the team, especially with the forward set to hit free agency at the end of the current season. Despite not yet making his debut for the Raptors due to a lingering left ankle sprain suffered in December, Ingram brings a wealth of talent and versatility to the team. In the limited 18 games he played this season, he averaged an impressive 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.

Ingram’s standout performance in the 2019-20 season, where he was named an All-Star and earned the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, further solidifies his value to the Raptors. During that season, he put up impressive stats of 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game across 62 appearances.

Fans can expect to see Ingram officially introduced as a Toronto Raptor at a press conference ahead of the team’s upcoming home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.
