RCMP scrutiny of missing N.S. children’s mother, stepfather suggests no criminal involvement
Newly released court documents are providing fresh insight into the search for two missing Nova Scotia children and the extensive investigative efforts conducted by police in the months following their disappearance. The redacted records reveal that as of July 16, authorities did not believe the case was criminal in nature.
Lilly Sullivan, 6, and Jack Sullivan, 4, were reported missing on May 2 when their mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, called 911 to report that they had wandered away from their home in Lansdowne Station. RCMP arrived at the scene 26 minutes later to begin an extensive search of the surrounding area, including dense woods, wells, mine shafts, and waterways.
The disappearance of the children captured the attention of people across Canada and around the world, leading to a significant influx of tips and video footage being evaluated by investigators. RCMP spokesperson Allison Gerrard stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with all available resources being utilized to locate Lilly and Jack.
Court documents reveal that in the early stages of the investigation, police obtained access to electronic devices, bank records, phone data, and GPS information belonging to Brooks-Murray and her then-boyfriend, Daniel Martell. Polygraph tests were conducted on multiple individuals, including Brooks-Murray, Martell, and various family members, all of whom passed.
Despite the extensive investigative efforts, the whereabouts of Lilly and Jack remain unknown. The documents also provide details of the days leading up to their disappearance, including errands run by the family and the last interactions with the children before they went missing.
The search for the missing children yielded potential evidence, including a pink blanket found near the home and a boot print discovered in the woods. While authorities continue to explore all possible scenarios, loved ones of the children maintain hope for their safe return.
