RCMP warns against HVAC -Halifax -area

Warning: Police Alert Residents of HVAC Scam

The police in the region are issuing a warning to residents about a scam involving the sale of HVAC systems that is currently circulating.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating multiple reports of fraud related to the sale of HVAC systems. Scammers are taking advantage of companies that offer legitimate energy efficiency discounts online to lure people into applying for loans.

Victims are asked to provide personal information through a link, which is then sent directly to the fraudsters.

Deceptive Tactics

The scammers have employees who pose as representatives of reputable companies. These employees track potential victims and arrange for sellers to visit their homes.

Once inside, the scammers use high-pressure sales tactics to persuade people to sign expensive financing contracts that can exceed $30,000.

Protect Yourself

The RCMP is advising residents to conduct thorough research before purchasing an HVAC system. It is important not to feel pressured into hiring a contractor or entering into a financial agreement with them.

Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities to help prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
