House GOP may subpoena Jill Biden’s ‘work husband’ over testimony

Former first lady Jill Biden’s former senior advisor, Anthony Bernal, is facing scrutiny for his refusal to appear before the House Oversight Committee to be questioned about the alleged cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s mental decline. The committee, led by Chair James Comer, R-Ky., scheduled a transcribed interview with Bernal for June 26 as part of their investigation into the Biden cover-up and the potential unauthorized use of autopen for executive actions and pardons.
Comer expressed his disappointment in Bernal’s decision to refuse to appear for the interview, especially now that the White House has waived executive privilege. This move by the White House has left Bernal with no privilege to hide behind, prompting Comer to issue a subpoena to compel Bernal to provide testimony before the committee.
The investigation is also looking into whether senior Biden aides played a role in keeping concerns about the former president’s mental acuity hidden from the public and lower-level White House staffers. Letters obtained by Fox News Digital show that the Trump administration will not allow those involved in the probe to use their past White House work as a legal shield.
The committee has already heard from former Staff Secretary Neera Tanden, who controlled the Biden autopen. Tanden testified that she had minimal interaction with President Biden and had no visibility into what occurred between sending decision memos and receiving them back with approval. This testimony raises questions about who was really in charge during Biden’s presidency amid his apparent decline.
Bernal’s legal team initially confirmed his appearance for the interview but later informed the committee that he would no longer participate following the White House’s decision to waive executive privilege. Despite previous subpoenas issued to key White House aides, including Bernal, the Biden administration allegedly obstructed the committee’s investigation by refusing to make the aides available for interviews or depositions.
As the investigation continues, the committee is dedicated to uncovering the truth for the American people. Stay tuned for further developments in this ongoing probe.
