Recall alert: Stop putting your baby in these nests and loungers now, warns Health Canada

Health Canada has issued a recall for a variety of baby nests and loungers due to the risk of smothering, entrapment, and falls. These products, which have soft, padded sides, are commonly used as sleep surfaces, changing mats, and tummy time mats for infants.

Some of the brands affected by the recall include BChic, Chicure, FFQRLP, Hapden, Housbay, La Millou, Style Life Eleven, Zoomie Kids, and Vevor. If you own any of these products, it is important to stop using them immediately. Health Canada emphasizes that no baby nest or lounger is safe for sleep due to the risk of suffocation, and infants should never be left unattended in them.

It is crucial to never place these products inside another device such as a crib, cradle, bassinet, or playpen. Additionally, they should not be used on soft surfaces like beds, waterbeds, air mattresses, couches, futons, or armchairs. The safest place for a baby to sleep is alone on a firm, flat surface.

While there have been no reported injuries related to these products in Canada, there have been incidents in North America that have raised concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission received 45 reports of incidents involving baby nests and loungers, resulting in 29 deaths between 2021 and 2023.

Health Canada is currently evaluating all baby nests and loungers to ensure their safety. In the meantime, the recalled brands have been removed from the market for not meeting Canadian safety standards. Consumers are urged to regularly check the recall list for updates and to visit Canada.ca for information on safe sleep practices for infants.
