Red Sox deal for all-star pitcher Garrett Crochet, send 4 prospects to White Sox

The Boston Red Sox made a significant move on Wednesday by acquiring star left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for four prospects: catcher Kyle Teel, infielder Chase Meidroth, right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez, and outfielder Braden Montgomery.

Crochet, a 25-year-old southpaw, had an impressive season with the White Sox, posting a 3.58 ERA in 32 starts. He was even selected to the AL All-Star team in his first full season as a starter. Drafted 11th overall in 2020, Crochet made his MLB debut later that year and continued to excel, with a 2.82 ERA in 2021 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022. He returned to the mound in May 2023 and showcased his impressive arsenal of pitches, including a high-velocity sinker and four-seam fastball.

With Crochet’s acquisition, the Red Sox add a talented arm to their rotation, joining a group that includes Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Brayan Bello, Garrett Whitlock, and Lucas Giolito.

In return, the White Sox receive promising prospects from the Red Sox organization. Teel is ranked as Boston’s No. 4 prospect, Meidroth at No. 11, Gonzalez at No. 14, and Montgomery at No. 54 by MLB.com.

In other MLB news, outfielder Mike Tauchman has signed a one-year, $1.95 million deal with the Chicago White Sox. The Palatine, Illinois native brings a solid track record of consistency, both at the plate and in the field, making him a valuable addition to the team.

Additionally, former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber has re-signed with the Cleveland Guardians after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024. The 29-year-old right-hander agreed to a one-year, $14 million contract with a player option for 2026. Bieber, who has a 3.22 ERA in 132 career starts, chose to remain with Cleveland despite interest from other teams.
