Rep. Ivey’s El Salvador trip to see deported gang suspect sparks White House fury

The White House has launched a scathing attack on Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., for his Memorial Day trip to El Salvador in an attempt to visit deported illegal immigrant and suspected MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The White House’s rapid response account described Ivey’s trip as “shameful” and criticized him for prioritizing criminal illegals over American citizens.
Ivey, who represents Abrego Garcia, took to his social media account to express his frustration at being denied access to his constituent. He accused the Salvadoran government of stonewalling his efforts to conduct a welfare check on Abrego Garcia, stating, “If there is nothing to hide, cut the crap. Let his lawyer and I check on him. I’m the congressman who represents Kilmar and I came all the way down from the United States after we contacted their ambassador.”
The controversy surrounding Abrego Garcia’s deportation has divided opinions, with the Trump administration citing evidence of his involvement with MS-13 and human trafficking to justify his removal from the U.S. Democrats, on the other hand, argue that he was not given due process in court before being deported and have been advocating for his release.
Several Democrats, including Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., have made similar trips to El Salvador to conduct wellness checks on Abrego Garcia. However, these visits have been met with criticism, with many questioning why Democrats are spending so much time advocating for a suspected gang member who was unlawfully present in the U.S.
In response to Ivey’s trip, White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson condemned his actions, calling them “shameful” and an insult to the American people. She criticized Ivey for prioritizing a deported illegal alien, MS-13 terrorist, human trafficker, and wife beater over American citizens.
Documents have also surfaced detailing Abrego Garcia’s questionable behavior, including an incident where he was stopped by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper for speeding and erratic driving. The trooper suspected human trafficking due to the lack of luggage in the vehicle and the individuals in the car giving the same address as Abrego Garcia.
The White House has not held back in its criticisms of Van Hollen’s visit either, highlighting the contrast between his meeting with Abrego Garcia and Trump’s meeting with the mother of Rachel Morin, who was murdered by an illegal immigrant. Van Hollen has defended his actions, stating that there is no connection between the murder of Rachel Morin and the situation with Abrego Garcia.
Despite the controversy surrounding Abrego Garcia’s deportation, Democrats continue to push for his release, sparking a heated debate over the prioritization of criminal illegals over American citizens. The issue remains a divisive one, with both sides standing firm in their beliefs.
