Rep. Lauren Boebert suggested renaming DC ‘District of America’

Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, recently spoke out during a legislative hearing about President Donald Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of America. Boebert urged her fellow House lawmakers to refrain from mocking the name change, suggesting that Washington, D.C., could potentially be next in line for a similar rebranding.

During the Water, Fisheries, and Wildlife Subcommittee hearing, Boebert expressed her concerns about potential mockery towards the Gulf of America Act, which supports Trump’s executive order. She emphasized the importance of taking the renaming seriously and warned against making jokes about it.

Boebert specifically stated, “I would caution my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to refrain from making fun of the Gulf of America because next up may end up being the District of America that we are working on.” She emphasized the need for respect towards the renaming process and suggested that sticking with the Gulf of America for now would be the best course of action.

In response to Boebert’s comments, Fox News Digital reached out to her office for further clarification on her stance. Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America shortly after taking office has sparked controversy and debate.

Additionally, Trump’s reversal of Alaska’s Denali mountain back to Mount McKinley has also been met with mixed reactions. The former president has been vocal about his criticism of D.C. leaders for their handling of violent crime in the city.

During a recent speech at the Justice Department, Trump emphasized the importance of cleaning up the nation’s capital and cracking down on crime. He also referenced the removal of Black Lives Matter Plaza, a prominent location near the White House, following pressure from Republicans.

Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered the removal of the Black Lives Matter Plaza, which featured large yellow letters spelling out the movement’s name. The decision to remove the plaza came after ongoing pressure from Republican officials and amidst a backdrop of social unrest and protests following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Overall, the issue of renaming locations and landmarks continues to be a topic of discussion and debate within the political landscape. Boebert’s comments serve as a reminder of the importance of respecting the renaming process and avoiding unnecessary mockery or criticism. As the debate over renaming locations like the Gulf of America and Mount McKinley continues, it remains to be seen how future renaming efforts will unfold.
