GOP state attorneys general are gearing up for a critical meeting at the Department of Justice where President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi will discuss plans to combat crime in communities across the country. The primary focus of the discussion is expected to be on the urgent need to address the devastating impact of fentanyl on American society.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares commended Bondi for her proactive approach and highlighted the significant decrease in addiction deaths in Virginia since 2021. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach that includes prosecution, prevention, and treatment, and expressed confidence in Trump’s nominee to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration, Terry Cole.
Miyares raised concerns about the Biden administration’s handling of the fentanyl epidemic, pointing out that the administration did not take the issue as seriously as it should have. He criticized the lack of action on the part of federal authorities and highlighted the alarming amount of fentanyl crossing the southern border.
Miyares praised President Trump’s executive order designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and emphasized the need for a united front among state attorneys general to combat the drug crisis. He called on colleagues from both parties to set aside political differences and work together to save lives and protect communities from the threat of drug trafficking.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday echoed Miyares’ sentiments, emphasizing the importance of keeping families together and addressing the root causes of addiction. He stressed the need for collaboration between law enforcement agencies and highlighted the impact of addiction on families and communities.
Sunday also highlighted the importance of border security in preventing the flow of fentanyl into the country, noting that the drug can reach Pennsylvania in less than 24 hours. He emphasized the need for a strong law enforcement presence in inner cities and expressed his commitment to serving all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
As state attorneys general prepare to meet with President Trump and Attorney General Bondi, they are united in their commitment to addressing the fentanyl crisis and protecting communities from the devastating effects of addiction. By working together across party lines and focusing on prevention, prosecution, and treatment, they aim to make a meaningful impact in the fight against drug trafficking and crime.
