US Election 2024

Republicans slam potential 2028 hopeful after calling for ‘mass protests’

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, has stirred up controversy once again, reigniting speculation about his potential presidential ambitions in 2028. However, it was his call for “mass protests” that dominated headlines, with Republicans accusing him of “inciting violence.”

Speaking at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s annual fundraising gala, Pritzker became the first potential Democratic candidate to visit New Hampshire, a key early primary state, since Democrats suffered significant losses in the November elections. His fiery speech calling for political action, including protesting, voting, and challenging the Trump administration in the courts, raised eyebrows and drew criticism from President Donald Trump’s supporters.

Pritzker’s statement, “It’s time to fight everywhere and all at once,” was interpreted by some as a call to incite violence, leading to backlash from Trump’s base. Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, labeled Pritzker’s comments as potentially inciting violence, while others, like Sen. Dave McCormick, accused Democrats of being out of touch with American voters.

The Illinois Governor clarified to reporters that he was referring to political action, not violence, but the damage had already been done. Donald Trump Jr. even accused Pritzker of trying to inspire a third assassination attempt on his father, further fueling the controversy.

Republicans, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley, criticized Pritzker’s remarks, pointing out that Democrats have been calling for “mass protests” and political disruption since Trump’s presidency began.

The Illinois Republican Party condemned Pritzker’s speech, labeling it as politically divisive and driven by his presidential ambitions. Party chair Kathy Salvi accused Pritzker of putting his ego and presidential bid ahead of the interests of Illinois residents.

Pritzker’s trip to New Hampshire, a state known for holding the first primary in the presidential race, is seen as a clear indication of his interest in running for president in 2028. His ongoing feud with President Trump has only intensified, with Trump frequently attacking Pritzker’s leadership in Illinois.

Despite the backlash and controversy surrounding his comments, Pritzker remains a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s policies and actions. His confrontational approach and willingness to challenge the status quo have solidified his position as a key figure in the Democratic Party’s opposition to the current administration.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Governor J.B. Pritzker’s ambitions and outspoken nature are sure to keep him in the spotlight as a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.
