Residents Allowed to Return Home After Propane Leak Near Bonny Lea Farm

Residents near the Bonny Lea Farm in the Municipality of the District of Chester were given the all-clear to return home around 12:30 a.m. Monday, following an emergency alert issued late Sunday night regarding a propane leak in the area.

The emergency alert was sent out at 10:33 p.m. by the Lunenburg County Regional Emergency Management Organization, notifying residents of a propane leak near 10 Berties Way off Highway 14.

As a precaution, all residents within 800 meters of the affected area were asked to evacuate. Emergency officials went door-to-door to ensure everyone’s safety, according to Erin Lowe, the municipality’s chief administrative officer.

Approximately 10 individuals sought refuge at a comfort center set up at the Chester Basin Fire Hall. Local fire departments, RCMP, and Irving Propane were all on the scene to respond to the incident.

Despite efforts to address the leak promptly, Lowe stated that she had no further details regarding the exact source of the leak at this time.
