Oscar nominations postponed due to wildfires, productions halted

Devastating Wildfires in Los Angeles Force Production Shutdown and Event Cancellations
The devastating wildfires that continue to ravage the celebrity-filled enclave of Pacific Palisades and other areas have had a widespread impact across Los Angeles, leading to a production shutdown and the cancellation of key award season events scheduled for this week.
The Critics Choice Awards, originally set to take place this Sunday in Santa Monica, have been postponed to Jan. 26 in light of the ongoing crisis caused by the fires.
Critics Choice Awards CEO Joey Berlin expressed sympathy for those affected by the fires, stating, “This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected.”
The Critics Choice Awards, which was supposed to be the second major televised Hollywood award show for the 2025 season, was set to be held at The Barker Hanger in Santa Monica. However, evacuation orders in Santa Monica and the destruction caused by the fires in Pacific Palisades led to the decision to postpone the event.
In addition to the Critics Choice Awards, other Hollywood events and red carpet premieres have also been canceled due to the wildfires. The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations announcement was shifted to a press release format, while the AFI Awards luncheon and the BAFTA Tea Party have been rescheduled and canceled, respectively.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a delay in the Academy Award nominations announcement and extended the Oscars voting window to provide more time for Academy members, many of whom reside in Los Angeles, to cast their ballots.
The impact of the wildfires has also been felt on Hollywood productions, with more than a dozen shows halting production in LA. Popular shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Hacks,” “Suits L.A.,” “NCIS,” and “The Price Is Right” have been affected, along with late-night shows such as “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “After Midnight.”
The situation is being closely monitored for further developments and the safety of all involved in the entertainment industry during this challenging time.
