Rolling closures for Highway of Heroes annual motorcycle ride

Those who drive around Halifax can expect that rolling closures for the seventh year start when the highway of the annual motorcycle tour of Heroes starts.

The ride is a tribute to both the cases of members and the present and still lost members of the police, fire, EMS and soldiers. Participants drive along Highway 111, then on Highway 118 and north to Highway 102, accompanied from Dartmouth to Truro.

The ride started at 1 p.m.

The founder of the ride, army veteran George Anthis, said when he started the ride seven years ago, he hoped for 75 to 100 participants. Almost 400 riders saw last year.

“Thank you for your support and hope that you can donate and come out and witness such a great, overwhelming, emotional and supporting ride,” said Anthis in a statement on the website of the campaign.

The regional police of Halifax says that it will help with traffic control during the event.

“There will be temporary, rolling closures at intersections and driveways along the route,” the police say. “There will be no complete street closures.”

Delays are to be expected.
