Ross Ulbricht, founder of darknet drug market Silk Road, thanks Trump for pardon

Ross Ulbricht, the mastermind behind the infamous Silk Road darknet drug market, expressed his gratitude towards President Donald Trump for granting him clemency in a heartfelt video shared on social media. Ulbricht, also known by his online alias “Dread Pirate Roberts,” was arrested in 2013 for his involvement in creating a platform that facilitated illegal activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering.

The Silk Road was a pioneering online marketplace that paved the way for the proliferation of darknet illegal marketplaces. Despite his significant role in its operation, Ulbricht was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. His laptop, used to maintain and develop the Silk Road, is now held by the FBI as a historical artifact alongside other notorious items.

In the video, Ulbricht expressed his overwhelming emotions at being granted freedom after spending 11 years behind bars. He thanked President Trump for the pardon and hinted at his plans to reconnect with the outside world. Ulbricht emphasized that his release was a victory for those who value freedom and second chances.

Ulbricht’s family, who had tirelessly campaigned for his release, also released a statement expressing their gratitude to President Trump and all those who supported their cause over the years. They expressed immense appreciation for the opportunity given to Ulbricht to start anew.

President Trump, in a statement on Truth Social, revealed that he had personally called Ulbricht’s mother to inform her of the pardon. He highlighted the unjust nature of Ulbricht’s sentencing, attributing it to the same individuals who had targeted him during his presidency. Trump described the multiple life sentences handed to Ulbricht as excessive and unjustifiable.

The Libertarian Movement, which had been a staunch supporter of Trump, also played a significant role in advocating for Ulbricht’s release. Members of the movement had fervently campaigned for justice for Ulbricht, believing that he had been unfairly punished for his role in the Silk Road.

Ulbricht’s release marks a significant moment in his journey towards redemption and reconciliation with his family and the world. As he embarks on this new chapter in his life, he is poised to make a positive impact and contribute to society in meaningful ways. The support and advocacy from his family, supporters, and influential figures have been instrumental in securing his freedom and giving him a second chance.
