Russia launches massive drone attack ahead of Saudi Arabia peace talks

Russia has launched a devastating drone attack on Kyiv and other major cities in Ukraine, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least seven people. The attack occurred overnight on Sunday, just days before scheduled peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia, mediated by the United States.

According to Ukraine’s air force, the attack involved 147 drones, with 97 being shot down and 25 failing to reach their targets. The capital city of Kyiv bore the brunt of the assault, with three people, including a 5-year-old child, losing their lives and at least 10 others sustaining injuries.

In the aftermath of the attack, Ukrainian citizens in Kyiv surveyed the destruction caused by the drones, expressing skepticism about the upcoming ceasefire talks. Dmytro Zapadnya, a resident of a damaged building in Kyiv, voiced his lack of faith in Russia’s commitment to any potential peace agreement, highlighting the ongoing violence as a sign of Moscow’s true intentions.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine condemned the attack, stating that such assaults were a daily occurrence for his country. He emphasized the urgent need for new solutions and increased pressure on Russia to halt the ongoing warfare and airstrikes.

As preparations continue for the peace talks in Saudi Arabia, Ukrainian officials are scheduled to meet with U.S. representatives a day before the negotiations. The goal of these discussions is to seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and bring an end to the suffering and devastation experienced by the Ukrainian people.

The tragic events in Ukraine serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for international cooperation and decisive action to address the crisis. The world watches with bated breath as efforts are made to secure peace and stability in the region, and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
