Russia warns Trump’s decisive Iran strikes could unleash ‘nuclear catastrophe’

Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, has strongly condemned the Trump administration’s recent airstrikes on Iran, warning that the actions could lead to a global “nuclear catastrophe.” Speaking during an emergency meeting of the Security Council, Nebenzia expressed grave concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East.

Nebenzia criticized the U.S. for its “irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative actions” against Iran, emphasizing that such actions could have unpredictable consequences for international security. He warned that the region is on the brink of a large-scale conflict that could have devastating effects on the global community.

The ambassador accused the Trump administration of disregarding the potential radiological consequences and threats to civilians in the region following the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Nebenzia highlighted the need for all parties to exercise restraint and return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Meanwhile, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed significant damage at Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. He noted that the use of explosive payloads and ground-penetrating munitions had caused extensive damage to these facilities.

Grossi also reported that additional buildings at the Isfahan site, including those used for uranium conversion, were targeted, while entrances to tunnels storing enriched material were hit. At the Natanz enrichment site, the Fuel Enrichment Plant was also struck, further exacerbating the situation.

Despite the airstrikes, Iran informed the IAEA that there had been no increase in off-site radiation levels at the targeted sites. This development has raised concerns about the long-term implications of the military intervention and the potential for further escalation in the region.

As the international community grapples with the fallout from the airstrikes, it is essential for all parties to prioritize diplomatic solutions and avoid further confrontation. The situation remains fluid, and the repercussions of these actions could have far-reaching consequences for global security.

In conclusion, the recent developments in the Middle East underscore the urgent need for dialogue and de-escalation to prevent a full-blown conflict. The international community must work together to address the root causes of the crisis and find peaceful resolutions to avoid a catastrophic outcome.
