SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights set for Nov. 18 with new downtown Halifax route

HALIFAX, N.S. — The 28th annual SaltWire Holiday Parade of Lights is bringing Santa Claus to the streets of Halifax to kick off the holidays on Saturday, Nov. 18, but on a slightly altered route.

This year’s event begins at 6 p.m. at the Cogswell Street roundabout near the Emera Oval and Citadel Community Centre before heading through the downtown along Ahern Avenue, Bell Road, South Park Street, Spring Garden Road and Barrington Street before ending at George Street.

This year’s change was necessary because of the ongoing road construction work in the Cogswell district.

Road closures along the route will start at 3:30 p.m. Vehicles parked along the route when the closures are in place will be towed.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time and to consider potential delays.

The parade will also serve as a platform for major fundraisers, including Move 100’s annual Christmas Toy Drive and Virgin Radio’s food drive.

Parade-goers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, toys in their original packaging and cash donations, which will be collected during the parade.

For those unable to attend, the parade will be broadcast on Eastlink Community TV from 7 p.m.

More information about the parade is available online.
