Sarault, Roussel strike gold in 1,000 metres at short track speed skating nationals
Courtney Sarault Continues Gold-Medal Streak at Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships
Canadian short track speed skater Courtney Sarault added another gold medal to her impressive collection, winning the women’s 1,000 metres at the national championships in Montreal. The Moncton native showed her dominance on the ice by crossing the finish line in a time of 1:29.214, marking her seventh consecutive victory in the event.
Strong Competition in Women’s Event
Ann-Sophie Bachand of Sherbrooke, Que., put on a strong performance, making a double pass to secure the silver medal with a time of 1:29.982. Danae Blais of Chateauguay, Que., also had a solid race and claimed the bronze medal with a time of 1:30.352.
Men’s Competition Sees Exciting Finish
In the men’s event, Felix Roussel of Sherbrooke, Que., emerged victorious with his third gold medal of the competition. Roussel made a strategic move in the final lap to overtake William Dandjinou and finish with a time of 1:25.144, earning him the title of the top-ranked 1000 skater.
William Dandjinou from Montreal had to settle for his second silver medal of the event, finishing with a time of 1:25.379. Mathieu Pelletier of Laval, Que., rounded out the podium with a bronze medal and a time of 1:25.672.
