Schumer requests 360-degree radar system for NY, NJ to detect drones

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has raised concerns about the unknown airborne craft that have been spotted in the night skies over parts of the United States. In response to these sightings, Schumer has called upon the Department of Homeland Security to deploy 360-degree radar systems capable of detecting drones.
“Our local people who have questions about these drones should not have to shake an eight ball to get an answer,” Schumer said, illustrating his point by holding up a magic eight ball toy in one hand and an image of a drone in the other.
Schumer specifically wants a 360-degree radar system produced by Dutch company Robin Radar Systems to be deployed to the New York and New Jersey region. The website of Robin Radar Systems touts their system’s ability to track and classify objects with precision, whether they be birds, bats, or drones.
“New Yorkers want real answers, and the Robin radar system can provide those answers, which is why we need them here,” Schumer emphasized.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has also expressed support for additional resources to address the drone sightings, stating, “In response to my calls for additional resources, our federal partners are deploying a state-of-the-art drone detection system to New York State.”
Fox News Digital reached out to DHS, Governor Hochul’s office, and Schumer’s office for further comments on the matter.
Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has addressed the situation, noting that some of the sightings have been drones while others may have been manned aircraft mistaken for drones. He also clarified that there is no evidence of foreign involvement in the sightings reported in the northeastern region of the United States.
President-elect Donald Trump also weighed in on the mystery drone sightings, questioning how these incidents could occur without the government’s knowledge. He called for transparency and immediate action, stating, “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!”
As the drone mystery continues to unfold, it is evident that government officials and agencies are taking proactive steps to address the situation and provide answers to concerned citizens. Schumer’s push for advanced radar systems and Mayorkas’ reassurances regarding the nature of the sightings demonstrate a concerted effort to investigate and resolve the mystery of the unidentified airborne craft.
