Schumer says ‘oligarchs’ keep him up at night, despite his own ties to billionaires
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared on the daytime talk show “The View” on Tuesday morning, where he expressed his concerns about the influence of “oligarchs” in the United States. Despite his ties to the billionaire Soros family, Schumer admitted that the power held by these wealthy individuals keeps him up at night.
During the 2024 election, mega-donor George Soros donated millions to Schumer’s Senate Majority PAC. Campaign finance reports revealed that Democracy PAC II, primarily funded by Soros, gave $2.5 million to Senate Majority PAC in 2024. Schumer has a well-documented relationship with Alex Soros, George Soros’ son, who has been actively involved in Democratic politics.
A review of Alex’s Instagram account revealed numerous photos of him with top Democrats, including at least nine meetings with Schumer between 2018 and 2022. Alex has also visited the White House multiple times during President Joe Biden’s administration, further highlighting his close ties to Democratic leadership.
Despite his connections to wealthy donors like George Soros, Schumer expressed his concerns about the growing power of oligarchs in the country. He emphasized the need to fight against the influence of these wealthy individuals who seek to dismantle government regulations and prioritize tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Schumer defended his decision to vote for a Republican spending bill to avert a government shutdown, stating that he wanted to prevent wealthy Republicans from seizing more power and benefiting from tax cuts. He criticized the Republican Party for being controlled by a “small group of wealthy, greedy people” who prioritize their own financial interests over the well-being of the American people.
In his farewell address to the nation, President Biden also warned about the rise of an oligarchy in America, emphasizing the threat it poses to democracy and basic rights. Schumer echoed these concerns on “The View,” highlighting the need to fight against the influence of wealthy individuals who seek to undermine government institutions.
Despite facing backlash from some Democrats for his decision to vote for the spending bill, Schumer remained steadfast in his belief that it was the right decision to prevent a government shutdown orchestrated by wealthy Republicans. He emphasized the importance of standing up to those who seek to exploit the system for their own gain, rather than prioritizing the needs of the American people.
