Scott touts ‘deal guy’ background in bid for Senate Majority Leader
Florida Sen. Rick Scott is making a strong case for why his Republican colleagues should back him for Senate Majority Leader, touting his extensive experience in business and politics. During an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Scott highlighted his background in building successful businesses, including the largest hospital company, various manufacturing companies, and running the state of Florida.
As Scott competes with fellow Republican Senators John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota for the Senate leadership position currently held by Sen. Mitch McConnell, he has garnered endorsements from key GOP figures such as Sens. Bill Hagerty, Ron Johnson, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio.
Rubio, in particular, emphasized Scott’s alignment with President-elect Trump, noting that any Senate Majority Leader must be able to work closely with Trump to advance his America First agenda. Hagerty echoed this sentiment, stating that he believes Scott is the best candidate to unify Senate Republicans behind the Trump agenda.
Scott himself emphasized the need for the Republican Senate to reflect the will of the voters and bring about meaningful change. He expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Senate in a way that prioritizes the needs and desires of Republican voters across the country.
While Scott has expressed hope for a public endorsement from Trump, reports suggest that the president-elect may be hesitant to weigh in on the Senate leadership race. Thune, on the other hand, has encouraged Trump to stay out of the competition, emphasizing that the decision should ultimately be left to the senators themselves.
As Republicans prepare to return to Washington for the upcoming vote, Scott, Cornyn, and Thune will have the opportunity to make their final pitches to their colleagues. The election, conducted by secret ballot, will take place on Wednesday, with only a simple majority required for a candidate to win.
Scott has positioned himself as a candidate who can bring people together and work across party lines to achieve common goals. He emphasized his track record as a dealmaker and expressed his commitment to working with Democrats to address key issues such as balancing the budget.
With the support of key Republican figures and a platform focused on unity and collaboration, Scott is making a compelling case for why he should be the next Senate Majority Leader. As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Wednesday’s election to see who will emerge as the leader of the Republican Senate.
