Search on for child who fell into river in Guysborough County

First responders in Nova Scotia were called to Cooks Cove at approximately 1:40 p.m. AT, where a search is underway for a missing child who fell into the water. The RCMP, along with fire, EHS, multiple ground search and rescue teams, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre are all on site assisting with the search efforts.

The RCMP is urging the public to avoid the Cooks Cove area in Guysborough County to allow the search teams to work efficiently. The child’s age and gender have not been disclosed by the police at this time.

Multiple agencies, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, have joined forces with the RCMP to locate the missing child. In a social media post at 4:01 p.m., the RCMP requested that people stay away from the area to give the officers and partner agencies the space they need to conduct their search operations.

An up-close picture of an RCMP shoulder patch was shared by CBC, showing the urgency and seriousness of the situation. The search is focused on a river that flows into the ocean, adding complexity to the search and rescue mission.

Anjuli Patil, a reporter and occasional video journalist with CBC Nova Scotia’s digital team, provided the latest updates on the ongoing search efforts. The community is urged to stay informed and support the authorities as they work tirelessly to locate the missing child.

As the search continues, authorities are asking for any information or tips from the public that could aid in the search and rescue mission. The safety and well-being of the missing child are of utmost importance, and every effort is being made to bring them back to safety.
