See Women of This Land, and 5 more docs to celebrate National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to celebrate the rich culture and history of Indigenous peoples. We’re highlighting some of the powerful Indigenous content produced in Atlantic Canada that you can watch on CBC Gem. 

Women of This Land – a four-part documentary series that spotlights an Indigenous woman from each province in Atlantic Canada and how they connect to land and culture. You can watch all four episodes on CBC Gem here. Click the player below to see an episode on Dr. Imelda Perley Opolahsomuwehs.

Forgotten Warriors – This Absolutely Canadian documentary tells the story of the 1983 Miawpukek hunger strike. You watch it on CBC Gem here, or read more about the documentary and its emotional premiere in this story by Jessica Singer.  

Land & Sea: The Gathering – Every fall in Gull Island, Labrador, Innu communities reconnect with nature and live off the land at the annual Manishan Nui gathering.
