Sex-change operations on minors defunded in new House bill

A new bill introduced by House GOP members aims to block federal funding for hospitals that perform sex-change surgeries on minors. Led by Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas and supported by interest groups Do No Harm and Genspect, the legislation specifically targets funding received by medical centers through a program designed to train new children’s physicians.
In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, Rep. Crenshaw emphasized the importance of upholding basic medical ethics and prioritizing genuine care over ideology. He stated, “Medicine should be grounded in truth and healing—not in false promises that cause lasting harm.”
The proposed bill seeks to reauthorize the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Payment Program through fiscal year 2030. It includes a provision that would prohibit payments to children’s hospitals if they provide specific procedures and drugs to individuals under 18 for the purpose of changing their body to align with a different gender.
Dr. Kurt Miceli, the Medical Director of Do No Harm, commended the legislation for safeguarding children from undergoing unscientific sex-change procedures funded by taxpayers. He emphasized the importance of protecting minors from harmful practices in federally funded medical education programs.
The bill’s introduction coincides with what conservatives have dubbed “DeTrans Awareness Day,” highlighting the ongoing debate surrounding transgender medical care for minors. The issue of transgender minors participating in school sports has also sparked heated discussions, with even some Democrats expressing concerns about suppressing dissent on the topic.
In a recent podcast interview with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the inclusion of transgender men in women’s sports as “deeply unfair.” He emphasized the importance of fairness in sports and acknowledged the contentious nature of the debate.
As the debate on transgender rights and medical care for minors continues to unfold, the proposed legislation by Rep. Crenshaw underscores the need to prioritize ethical medical practices and protect vulnerable children from potentially harmful procedures. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the bill as it navigates through the legislative process.
