Shea Weber, Pavel Datsyuk enshrined as part of Hockey Hall of Fame’s 2024 class

Shea Weber, a former defenceman, was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the 2024 class. Alongside him were Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, Natalie Darwitz, and Krissy Wendell in the player category, while David Poile and Colin Campbell entered as builders.

Weber, hailing from Sicamous, B.C., had a career cut short due to a string of injuries. Despite this, he left a lasting impact on the ice, particularly with the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, where he amassed 589 points in 1,038 games and added 42 points in 97 playoff appearances. In his induction speech, Weber expressed his enduring love for the game, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and dedication.

Pavel Datsyuk, a skilled Russian centre, also joined the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. With 918 points in 953 games for the Detroit Red Wings, Datsyuk was a four-time Lady Byng Trophy winner and three-time Selke Trophy recipient. His international success included multiple Olympic appearances and victories for Team Russia.

Jeremy Roenick, known for his dynamic play for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers, accumulated 1,216 points in 1,363 games. Roenick’s passion for the game shone through in his speech, reflecting on the profound impact hockey had on his life.

Krissy Wendell, a forward from Minnesota, and Natalie Darwitz, also from Minnesota, were recognized for their contributions to women’s hockey, with both players showcasing their talent on the international stage.

Builders David Poile and Colin Campbell were also honored for their significant roles in shaping the sport. Poile, a longtime general manager for the Nashville Predators, made impactful decisions that shaped the team’s trajectory. Campbell, with a diverse background in hockey as a player, coach, and NHL executive, was instrumental in implementing innovative changes to the league.
