Singer Bebe Rexha says she’s fine after being hit in the face by a thrown phone on stage

NEW YORK (AP) — Pop star Bebe Rexha was punched in the face and injured Sunday night by a cell phone thrown from the audience at a show in his hometown in New York City, and a man was arrested, police said.

The Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter was taken to a hospital after the phone hit her, police said. A bruise and a bandage were visible above her left eye in social media posts she posted Monday.

“I’m good, yeah, I’m feelin’ alright,” she sang in a TikTok video, taking a line from “I’m Good (Blue),” her recent hit with DJ David Guetta.

Rexha, 33, was onstage at Pier 17, a rooftop venue in Manhattan, when the phone was thrown, police said. A video posted to social media showed the phone bouncing off the artist’s head, after which Rexha grabbed her face and dropped to her knees.

A 27-year-old New Jersey man was awaiting arraignment Monday after being arrested for assault. There was no immediate information on whether he had an attorney to comment on the allegation.

A three-time Grammy nominee, Rexha is known for hits such as “I’m Good (Blue)”, “Meant to Be”, featuring the country’s Florida Georgia Line, and “I Got You”. Growing up in New York, she was a songwriter for other artists before becoming a solo star.

“What I’m learning is that not everyone will connect with you and understand you, and that’s okay,” she said told The Associated Press in April, shortly before the release of her latest album ‘Bebe’.

“And I feel like you just have to be your truest version of yourself because at the end of the day, if you’re trying to change yourself to be liked by other people, you’re not really you,” she added up to it. .
