SIRT announces new charge against suspended HRP officer

A Halifax Regional Police officer currently on suspension while awaiting trial on four criminal charges has been charged with another offence in a separate matter.

Erin Nauss, the interim director of Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team, announced Friday that Jacob Farr, 33, has been charged with assaulting a female known to him on April 29 of last year.

Halifax police contacted the RCMP on Oct. 29 after receiving information about the alleged assault, and the RCMP handed the information on to SIRT.

The investigation concluded Thursday, and Farr, who has the rank of constable, was charged the same day. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Jan. 8.

Halifax Police spokesman Const. John MacLeod said Farr remains suspended with pay under the province’s Police Act.

Farr, 33, already faces two counts of assault in the Oct. 12, 2020, arrest of a male.

He is also accused of obstructing a police officer and breach of trust for allegedly failing to report his actions in police reports.

His judge-alone trial is scheduled for June of this year in Halifax Supreme Court.

SIRT announced those charges in July 2021 after opening an investigation that February.

Farr was hired by the police force in December 2017.
