Size of Republican House majority to be decided by 9 remaining uncalled races

More than a week after Election Day, the final outcome of the 2024 election is still uncertain as nine House races remain uncalled. Republican Donald Trump has secured a second term as president, and the GOP is projected to maintain control of the Senate. However, the balance of power in the House of Representatives hangs in the balance with 218 seats for Republicans and 208 for Democrats.

Alaska At-large district:

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Costa leads Republican challenger Michael Maher in the 21st Congressional District. Costa maintains a lead of over 5,000 votes with 81.7% of the vote counted.

California 45th Congressional District:
Incumbent Republican Rep. Michelle Steel leads Democratic challenger Derek Tran by a narrow margin in the 45th Congressional District. With over 92% of the votes counted, Steel’s lead has shrunk to 349 votes.

Iowa 1st Congressional District:
Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannet Miller-Meeks holds a less than 1% lead over challenger Christina Bohannan in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. With 99% of the vote counted, Miller-Meeks maintains a slight advantage.

Maine 2nd Congressional District:
Democratic incumbent Jared Golden holds a narrow lead over Republican challenger Austin Theriault in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. With 98% of the votes counted, Golden’s lead is less than 800 votes.

Ohio 9th Congressional District:
Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur leads Republican challenger Derek Merrin by less than 1 point in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District. With 99% of the votes counted, Kaptur holds a lead of just over 1,000 votes.

Oregon 5th Congressional District:
Republican incumbent Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer is trailing Democratic challenger Janelle Bynum by nearly 3 points in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District. With 93% of the votes counted, Bynum maintains a lead of over 10,000 votes.
