Tragedy Strikes Peruvian Soccer Match as Player Killed by Lightning

LIMA, Peru –

A devastating incident occurred during an amateur soccer match in the remote Andean city of Chilca, Peru, resulting in the death of a player and injuries to seven others due to a lightning strike.

The victim, identified as José De la Cruz, aged 39, tragically lost his life when he was struck by lightning while playing for his team, Familia Chocca, against Juventud Bellavista.

Local authorities revealed that the match was abruptly halted by the referee as lightning struck close to the pitch. Shockingly, a second bolt of lightning hit De la Cruz, causing severe injuries to seven additional players as onlookers scattered in fear.

Following the incident, the injured individuals were swiftly transported to a hospital in Huancayo, the capital of the Junín region, for medical treatment.
