Despite his socialist proposals, Zohran Mamdani, a candidate for mayor of New York City, has garnered support from several millionaires who back his calls to tax the wealthy to fund social programs.

One of these supporters is James Hueston, a 27-year-old venture capitalist, who is part of a group called the Mamdani Millionaires, as reported in a recent Wall Street Journal article. Hueston believes in paying his fair share to support policies that benefit those in need.

Voting data reveals that about a third of the city’s wealthiest residents supported Mamdani in the primary election, according to the New York Post. Many donors, including individuals from Wall Street and large law firms, have chosen to remain anonymous.

Another high-earning supporter is Ahmed Haque, the founder and CEO of consulting firm Didactic Labs, who believes that small businesses are crucial for immigrant communities to achieve upward mobility.

Bradley Tusk, a venture capitalist who managed Michael Bloomberg’s third mayoral campaign, expressed his support for Mamdani on LinkedIn, urging New Yorkers to assist in his success.

Keith McNally, owner of Balthazar restaurant, described Mamdani as “fantastic” in an Instagram post, dismissing claims from his affluent friends that Mamdani is dangerous.

Kathy Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York City, revealed that she had met with Mamdani in September, long before his candidacy gained traction. Mamdani assured her that he supports private sector solutions for the housing crisis.

Overall, Mamdani’s campaign has sparked a debate about the feasibility of his radical policy agenda, but his ability to attract support from millionaires indicates a growing interest in his platform.
