Some schools in Nova Scotia closed as snowfall approaches

Many schools in Nova Scotia are closed today due to a snowfall that is moving across the region. According to CBC meteorologist Ryan Snoddon, the snow began this morning in western areas and is expected to continue throughout the afternoon in central and eastern parts of the province.

Several schools have either closed for the day or are dismissing students early. The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education, Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education, and South Shore Regional Centre for Education have all closed their schools and worksites. The Halifax Regional Centre for Education will dismiss students two hours early, while the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education and Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education have also closed their schools. Classes are canceled at Pleasant Bay School in the Strait Regional Centre for Education, and in the CSAP schools in the Sud and Métro clusters.

Drivers in Nova Scotia should expect snowy roads during the commute on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The snowfall is predicted to total between two to five centimeters in the afternoon and an additional five to 10 centimeters in the evening and overnight.

Although most of the snow will have passed by Thursday morning, there may still be some lingering flurries with the potential for a few more centimeters, particularly in eastern areas. Thursday is expected to be very cold, with temperatures ranging from -8 to -12 degrees and northwest winds gusting up to 50 km/h, resulting in wind chills between -15 to -25 degrees.

According to Snoddon, the active weather pattern will continue, with another system likely to track through Nova Scotia on Friday, bringing more snow during the afternoon commute.
