Son of Norway’s crown princess arrested on suspicion of rape

The 27-year-old son of Norway Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, is facing a preliminary rape charge after his arrest in Oslo, the country’s capital, according to police. The stepson of Crown Prince Haakon and son of Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, Borg Høiby has no royal title or official duties.

The accusation against Borg Høiby is that he engaged in “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act,” as reported by Sky News. Local media mentioned that he has denied the allegation. The Royal House of Norway did not immediately respond to requests for comments on this matter.

The alleged incident’s timeline is unclear, but the victim’s lawyer stated that the police brought forth the charge and that the victim is struggling with the situation. This arrest marks the second time Borg Høiby has been taken into custody in recent months.

In a previous incident on August 4, police responded to a disturbance in downtown Oslo and briefly detained Borg Høiby. He faced preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage before being released. Details of the incident were not fully disclosed, but authorities mentioned that there was a relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Borg Høiby resides with the royal couple, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, along with their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
