South Carolina man arrested for Trump threats

A 47-year-old man from South Carolina is facing federal charges after allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump. Travis Keith Lang, from Irmo, South Carolina, was arraigned on federal charges in a Columbia courthouse after being arrested. He pleaded not guilty and was denied bond, currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Lang’s indictment alleges that he threatened to “take the life of, to kidnap, and to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States.” The U.S. Secret Service is investigating the allegations, and Lang is scheduled for a bond hearing on March 14.

Interestingly, Lang had filed with the Federal Election Commission last year to run for president as a Republican, but he was not on the Republican primary ballot in South Carolina or anywhere else. He received a donation of $6,000 from himself, according to FEC filings. If convicted, Lang could face up to five years in prison.

Lang’s Facebook page still shows his candidacy for president, with his profile picture being a split image of his face and Abraham Lincoln. Additionally, he has been critical of former President Joe Biden, even calling for articles of impeachment against him in 2023. A U.S. attorney revealed that Lang had made multiple threats to both Trump and Biden in the past, with the Secret Service visiting him to warn him to stop making threats.

These threats come after Trump faced two assassination attempts last year, including being grazed in the ear by a bullet during an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office and the Secret Service for comment on this ongoing investigation.

It serves as a reminder of the security challenges faced by political figures and the need for vigilance in protecting them from harm.
