Special Counsel Weiss expected to release Hunter Biden report as soon as next week

Special Counsel David Weiss is set to release his final report on the long-running investigation into Hunter Biden next week, according to exclusive information obtained by Fox News. The investigation led to Hunter Biden being found guilty of three felony firearm offenses and federal tax crimes amounting to at least $1.4 million in unpaid taxes. Prior to his trial, Hunter Biden surprised many by entering a guilty plea.
The charges against Hunter Biden could have resulted in up to 17 years of imprisonment. However, in a controversial move, President Joe Biden pardoned his son on all charges in December, just before his scheduled sentencing on December 16.
The federal investigation into Hunter Biden began back in November 2018 but gained significant attention in 2023 when IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, raised concerns about political interference in the probe. They alleged that Trump-appointed Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who later became a special counsel, had been influenced by political agendas in pursuing the case against Hunter Biden.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed David Weiss as special counsel to continue the investigation and bring federal charges against Hunter Biden in both Delaware and California. According to Justice Department regulations, Weiss is required to submit a final report to Attorney General Garland, who has promised to share as much information with the public as possible.
President Biden’s decision to pardon his son came as a surprise to many, as he had previously stated that he would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making. The blanket pardon covers any offenses committed by Hunter Biden from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024, and was announced by the president last month.
In a statement, President Biden emphasized that he had kept his word not to interfere with the Justice Department’s actions but felt compelled to protect his son from what he described as selective prosecution. He highlighted Hunter Biden’s commitment to sobriety and resilience in the face of relentless attacks.
The decision to pardon Hunter Biden has sparked debate and raised questions about the impartiality of the justice system. As the public awaits the release of Special Counsel David Weiss’ final report, the implications of the pardon and the broader implications for the Biden administration remain to be seen.
