Sprint to confirm Trump nominees kicks off in January

The Senate is gearing up for a whirlwind of activity in early January as they prepare to confirm as many of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees as possible. The question on everyone’s mind is how many nominees will be confirmed and how quickly can it be done.
In the past, Trump faced challenges with his nominees as many of them were not aligned with his movement and struggled to build chemistry with the new president. This time around, Trump is choosing nominees who are loyal to him and his agenda. While this may cause outrage from both the left and the right, it could potentially smooth the confirmation process.
The Senate will have a rocket docket in early 2025 as they aim to confirm Trump’s nominees as quickly as possible. Senators will return from the inauguration on January 20 and are expected to vote on a comprehensive slate of nominees into the evening.
However, Democrats are prepared to erect roadblocks and conduct due diligence on the nominees. They are especially concerned about the possibility of recess appointments that would allow nominees to be installed without a vote during a recess of both the House and Senate.
Republicans are willing to blame Democrats for potential holdups on nominees, but the issue could lie with the GOP itself. With a slim majority in the Senate, Republicans will need to keep an eye on potential defectors who could sway the confirmation process.
It remains to be seen how the Senate will handle the confirmation process and whether there will be retribution for those who oppose Trump’s nominees. The pace of confirmations and the willingness of Republicans to either go along with the president-elect or stand on principle will be telling of the Senate under incoming President Trump.
