State senator pushed to the ground, arrested while trying to enter Georgia House chamber

A Georgia state senator and staunch supporter of President-elect Trump found himself in hot water on Thursday when he was pushed to the floor and arrested while attempting to enter the state House chamber. State Sen. Colton Moore, who has a history of controversy and clashes with fellow lawmakers, was banned from entering the chamber after criticizing the state Senate’s decision to consider naming a building at the University of North Georgia after former speaker David Ralston.

Moore, who last year attempted to have Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis impeached for indicting Trump, was determined to attend Gov. Brian Kemp’s State of the State Address. Despite being aware of the ban, Moore tried to enter the chamber and was met with resistance from doormen. A scuffle ensued, with Moore ultimately being pushed to the floor and arrested by state troopers.

In a letter to House Speaker Jon Burns prior to the incident, Moore argued that the ban was unconstitutional and insisted on attending the joint session. He maintained his stance on social media, proclaiming, “I will NEVER back down. I will ALWAYS speak the truth and represent the people of Northwest Georgia as their trusted America First Senator.”

Following the incident, Moore criticized the state for being “ruled by authoritarians” and accused the ban of censoring his voice as an elected official. Georgia Republican chairman Josh McKoon expressed disappointment over Moore’s denial of entry and subsequent arrest, calling it legally inappropriate and emphasizing the need to focus on Governor Kemp’s agenda for the state.

In 2023, Moore faced suspension from Georgia’s Republican Senate Caucus for his aggressive stance on impeaching Willis and defunding her office. Despite facing backlash, Moore remained steadfast in his support of Trump and his efforts to combat what he viewed as political witch hunts.

The Willis case, which Moore was heavily involved in, ultimately unraveled due to revelations of a romantic relationship between Willis and a prosecutor she hired. The case’s collapse raised questions about the motivations behind Moore’s push for impeachment.

In the wake of these events, Moore’s future in Georgia politics remains uncertain. As the dust settles, it is evident that his confrontational approach and unwavering support for Trump have led to both accolades and consequences. Only time will tell how Moore’s actions will shape his political career moving forward.
