State senator says he’s seeking US Senate seat ‘because Bill Cassidy sucks’

Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez has thrown his hat into the ring for a U.S. Senate bid, making a bold declaration in a campaign video that he is “running for the U.S. Senate because Bill Cassidy sucks.” Miguez’s campaign video features old footage of Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, highlighting the fact that he voted to convict President Donald Trump. Cassidy’s vote for conviction came after the House impeached Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
However, it’s important to note that the Senate vote took place after Trump had already left office, and it ultimately fell short of the threshold necessary for conviction. In his announcement on X, Miguez stated, “I’m running because the American Dream is worth fighting for – and DC phonies forget that. Bill Cassidy betrayed our state, our President, and our principles.”
Miguez made it clear that if elected as the next Senator, he will stand with President Trump and never stop fighting to put America first. He emphasized that Cassidy had his chance and missed it, but he won’t make the same mistake. Miguez’s bold stance against Cassidy has already garnered attention, with Fox News Digital reaching out to Cassidy’s campaign for comment on the matter.
Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming is also targeting Cassidy for removal from office and announced his U.S. Senate bid last year. The upcoming U.S. Senate election in Louisiana is set to take place in 2026, giving candidates like Miguez and Fleming time to build their campaigns and connect with voters.
Cassidy has been serving in the Senate since 2015, following his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Louisiana state Senate. His actions, particularly his vote on the impeachment of President Trump, have sparked criticism and opposition from within his own party.
It will be interesting to see how Miguez’s entry into the U.S. Senate race shakes up the political landscape in Louisiana and whether his strong stance against Cassidy will resonate with voters. As the campaign heats up, all eyes will be on the candidates as they make their case to the people of Louisiana. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
