Stefanik meets with 10 senators to court approval as Trump’s UN ambassador

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., has been making the rounds on Capitol Hill as she seeks approval to become President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik, who currently serves as House GOP chair, has been meeting with Republican senators to discuss her record of supporting Israel and fighting against antisemitism.
In her meetings with senators such as Katie Britt, MarkWayne Mullin, Jim Banks, Tim Scott, and Shelley Capito, Stefanik emphasized her commitment to standing with Israel and promoting Trump’s “America First peace through strength national security policies.” She also met with senators Steve Daines, Marsha Blackburn, Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and John Barasso, where discussions centered around these key issues.
McConnell, who is outgoing Senate majority leader, expressed confidence in Stefanik’s ability to deliver a much-needed wake-up call to the United Nations. He highlighted the importance of holding UNRWA accountable and ensuring that U.S. taxpayer dollars are not used in ways that support antisemitism or violate human rights.
Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes. President Biden and the Pentagon both condemned the ICC’s decision, emphasizing that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas.
Stefanik has been a vocal advocate for Israel, particularly in light of recent events in the region. She has called for a reassessment of U.S. funding for the United Nations and has been critical of the Biden administration’s support for UNRWA, which she believes promotes antisemitic hate and supports terrorism.
As discussions continue on Capitol Hill, Stefanik’s nomination will be closely watched. With her strong stance on Israel and commitment to American foreign policy based on peace through strength, she is poised to make a significant impact if confirmed as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
