Stephen King’s rock radio station won’t go silent

BANGOR, Maine – Stephen King’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio Station to Continue Under New Ownership
Horror author Stephen King’s iconic rock ‘n’ roll radio station, WKIT-FM, will not be going silent after all. Two businessmen, Greg Hawes and Jeff Solari, have purchased the station from King after he announced its impending closure at the end of the year. The duo, who formed the Rock Lobster Radio Group, are committed to keeping the station rocking around the clock.
Hawes and Solari expressed their excitement about the acquisition, stating, “WKIT is the most legendary station in the region with tremendous history. We couldn’t let it die.” They are dedicated to preserving the station’s legacy and ensuring that it continues to be a staple in the community.
King, a lifelong rock music enthusiast, has been involved in the radio industry since 1983 when he purchased a station that was later rebranded as WZON, a nod to his book “The Dead Zone.” Despite his love for the station, King announced earlier this month that it was time to bid farewell to WKIT and its sister stations at the age of 77.
Reflecting on his decision, King shared on social media, “I’m sorry as hell to be closing down WKIT and its sister stations. I held off the suits for as long as I could.” However, fans can now rejoice knowing that WKIT will live on under new ownership.
