Steve Witkoff says Putin does not intent to invade Europe

President Donald Trump’s envoy to Russia and Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, expressed his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have intentions of invading Europe. In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Witkoff discussed Putin’s motives on a broader scale and stated, “I just don’t see that he wants to take all of Europe.”
Witkoff emphasized the differences in the current situation compared to World War II, noting the presence of NATO as a deterrent. He indicated that he takes Putin at his word in this regard, suggesting that the Russian leader may not have aggressive intentions towards Europe.
The envoy’s comments come ahead of his scheduled meetings with Russian and Ukrainian delegations for indirect ceasefire talks in Saudi Arabia. The Trump administration aims to facilitate a larger peace agreement in the region.
Witkoff expressed optimism about making progress during the talks, particularly regarding a Black Sea ceasefire between the two countries. He suggested that this could lead to a broader ceasefire agreement in the future.
However, Moscow spokesman Dmitry Peskov cautioned that there are significant obstacles to overcome before a peace deal can be reached. The recent drone attack launched by Russia on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities underscores the challenges in achieving peace in the region.
The attack, involving 147 drones according to Ukraine’s air force, resulted in significant damage and casualties. Despite the upcoming ceasefire talks, many Ukrainians remain skeptical of Russia’s true intentions, citing the destruction caused by the recent drone strike.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the focus remains on finding a sustainable solution to the conflict in Eastern Europe. The road to peace may be long and challenging, but the commitment to dialogue and negotiation remains paramount in resolving the crisis.
