US Election 2024

Majority of Americans support deporting at least some illegal immigrants: poll

A recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center revealed that most Americans support deporting at least some illegal immigrants, although there are differing opinions on the reasons behind this stance. According to the poll, 32% of U.S. adults believe that all illegal immigrants should be deported, while 16% think that none should be deported.

The survey found that about half of U.S. adults agree that some immigrants living in the country illegally should be deported, but there is no consensus on the criteria for deportation. Among the 51% of adults who support some level of deportation, the majority are in favor of deporting those who commit violent crimes.

However, opinions diverge when it comes to deporting illegal immigrants who have committed nonviolent crimes, with 52% in favor and 44% against. Additionally, 44% of those surveyed support deporting immigrants who have arrived in the last four years.

Interestingly, fewer adults who support some deportation of illegal immigrants believe that individuals with a job (15% in favor), family in the U.S. (19% in favor), or who came to the U.S. as children (9% in favor) should be deported.

The poll results coincide with ongoing efforts by the Trump administration to crack down on illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational gangs operating within the U.S. In a recent development, 261 illegal aliens were deported to El Salvador on March 15 under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which allows for the expulsion of individuals from an enemy nation without a hearing.

In a separate incident, the FBI announced the capture of the top leader of the MS-13 gang for the U.S. East Coast. The 24-year-old suspect was apprehended in Woodbridge, Virginia, just south of Washington, D.C.
