Stolen Sydney car ends up crashed in Lower Sackville, three youth arrested and charged
LOWER SACKVILLE, N.S. — Three young people from Sydney escaped injury when they crashed a stolen vehicle in Lower Sackville on Sunday morning, but they weren’t able to avoid charges.
While on patrol, Halifax RCMP officers came across a Hyundai Accent that crashed into a cement barrier and was facing the wrong way on Highway 103 around 1:30 a.m. Three occupants fled the scene on foot.
Police quickly determined the car had been stolen hundreds of kilometres away in Cape Breton.
With police service dogs deployed, it didn’t take long for officers to find and arrest the trio at a nearby apartment building on Old Sackville Road.
Two have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and failure to comply with a release order, while the third is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime and obstructing a peace officer.
All three appeared in Halifax youth court on Monday, with two of them held until their next court date. The third was released on conditions pending his next court appearance in the Sydney Youth Justice Court.
