Dermatologists warn of the dangers of a Tiktok trend in which teenagers create ‘sunburn tattoos’.
This means that the skin can be burned while wearing stickers, tape or sunscreen to make artistic designs.
Although some young adults said Fox News Digital that they use their skin as canvas to create these sunscreen views for social media attention and because it looks “cool”, skin care experts say that this can be harmful to skin health.
Sharpie Lip-Liner Trend becomes viral while doctors warn of potential dangers
“Regardless of how creative or harmless it seems, every sunburn is skin injury,” Dr. Anthony Rossi, a double board-certified dermatological surgeon in New York City, to Fox News Digital.
“This trend ‘sunscreen tattoo’ trend still includes intentional UV damage to the skin, which can increase the risk of both immediate and long-term consequences in the course of time.”

Sunscreen accelerates the aging process of the skin and increases the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form.
“A pattern that produces forms may look cool in a photo, but it can create dangerous UV hotspots – and the damage is cumulative,” warned the doctor, who is also the founder of the Dr. Rossi -skin care line.
‘Old people smell’ is real, say experts – here is how you can avoid it when you get older
Rossi shared how many of his elderly patients recall the days of using iodine, baby oil and sun reflectors – and now they have to deal with the consequences.
“I regularly see patients who had frequent browns – either through cabins or exposure – during adolescence,” he said. “By their 1930s and 40s, many of them have already presented with pre-cancer-like lesions or real skin cancer.”

“These can lead to multiple operations, scars and melanoma, that can suck and be fatal.”
Dr. Sara Moghaddam, a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon certified by the Council who practices Delmarva Skin specialists in Selbyville, Delaware, noted that the trend of the Zonneburn Tattoo trend concerns and considerably increases the risk of future skin cancer in teenagers.

“Experiencing five or more sizzling sunburn between the ages of 15 and 20 can increase the melanoma risk of an individual by 80%,” Moghaddam told Fox News Digital.
When a sunburn occurs, the UV radiation damages the DNA in skin cells, which leads to mutations that can cause cells to grow uncontrollably, which may lead to skin cancer, she said.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) confirms that every time the skin is TANS, the only degree of damage increases.
“As this damage builds, accelerate the aging of your skin and increases your risk of all types of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer,” says the AAD website.
Prevention tips
Both dermatologists said that a spray brown can be a safer alternative for achieving a temporary “tan tattoo”.
“Spray Tans use dihydroxyaceton (DHA), a sugar that responds with amino acids in the top layer of the skin, to create a temporary brown color,” said Moghaddam.

“There is no evidence that DHA from Spray Tans is harmful; the color easily fades if the skin naturally exfoliates.”
However, Rossi warned that Spray -tans will come up with any risk if it was incorrectly inhaled. He also warned that they would not protect against future burns.

“UV damage is treacherous not only is the short-lived image, but also about life,” said a dermatologist. (Istock)
To protect the skin against sun damage and to reduce the risk of skin cancer, the AAD recommends looking for shadow where possible, especially if “your shadow is shorter than you”, and to be aware that the peak hours of the sun are between 10 am and 2 pm
A sun protection routine must be the use of wide-spectrum sunscreen and wearing UV protection products, including hats with wide edge and sunglasses, experts advise.
