SunFed cucumbers sold in U.S. and Canada recalled due to salmonella risk

SunFed Produce brand whole, fresh American cucumbers have been recalled by Canadian officials due to potential salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a statement on Thursday, alerting consumers about the recall. The cucumbers were packaged in bulk cardboard containers with the SunFed label or in a generic white box or black plastic crate with a sticker bearing the grower’s name, Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.

The affected cucumbers were sold in both Canada and the United States between October 12 and November 26. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the recalled products were distributed to customers in 26 U.S. states as well as Alberta, British Columbia, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. The FDA also mentioned that the cucumbers could have reached consumers through various food service and retail outlets.

The CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation to determine the cause of the contamination and may issue a food recall warning if necessary. Consumers are advised to sign up for food recall notifications on the CFIA website to stay informed about product recalls.

The FDA provided guidelines for consumers who may have purchased the recalled cucumbers. These guidelines include checking for the recalled cucumbers, not consuming them, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces that may have come into contact with the product, and disposing of the recalled cucumbers. Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the affected cucumbers should contact their retailer for clarification. If any consumer has consumed the recalled product and feels unwell, they are advised to seek medical attention.
